Technology in Banking

The Internet has taken a lot of the paperwork out of banking, but there is no avoiding paper when someone gives you a check. Now one bank wants to let customers deposit checks immediately — through their phones.

I have to admit, I’m a little jealous of all the technology that US banking customers have access to to manage their finances.  From nearly ubiquitous access through Quicken, MS Money, to on-line money managers like Mint.

My day-to-day bank does not even allow live sync with Quicken, and now people can deposit cheques on their iPhone??  Why are Canadian banks lagging behind in their technology offerings?  Is it privacy concerns? Is the market demand not high enough?  (I find this one hard to believe.)

Recently I completed a survey about online banking for my institution, and I realized I’ve been using Internet Banking for over 10 years, but I don’t think that the features have really improved a lot since then.

Maybe consumers need to start demanding more.
